The Exciting Event - Our Pulau Ubin trip |
By Nur Lydiawati (4n1) - Sparrow Patrol
The time we spent at Pulau Ubin was most memorable. I can remember that we are supposed to assemble early at 7.30am in school just in case we might be late. So I met up with my friends before heading off to school. We had our attendance taken and were briefed by the teachers before boarding the bus. We then headed off to our destination.
The ride to our destination was quite long so we decided to take a nap for a while. Yes! Some of us were pretty excited about it. When we arrived at Pulua Ubin, I already have some queasy feelings inside my stomach because I was afraid to board the bum-boat and I was thinking what would happen next. My fellow guide was there trying to distract my uneasy feelings about the ride to Pulau Ubin but still I wasn’t sure about it.
The ride to Pulau Ubin was scary. I remembered that I was so scared that I didn’t even want to look outside the window even though the view was nice. I was still having seasickness when we arrived at the jetty. I decided to take a rest while waiting for further instructions from the teachers. The view at Pulau Ubin was fabulous. Even though I was still experiencing some sea-sickness, I was truly amazed by the view because it was my first time there.
Soon our adventures started. We are divided into two groups: cycling group and trekking group. For a girl like me who's not good in cycling, I decided to join the trekking group instead. It was sure quite a long walk from one point and to another end of the islands. It was sure quite an amazing view while trekking along the path. I got to see some old villages and other unusual stuff that were not found in Singapore. We took some pictures along the way.
Not long after, we met up with the cycling group to stop for a short break. Then we started walking to an old mansion that was filled with facts of the marine life at Pulau Ubin. We were also was mesmerized by the swamps even though the smell was quite irritating to our noses. Some cute and small little crabs were walking here and there. We spent about thirty minutes admiring the crabs before heading back to our next terminal, getting ready to go back to the jetty.
The path to the jetty was quite tiring because we have to walk up and down the bumpy path. I remembered almost getting lost with some of my juniors while walking back to the jetty. We started to panic because we did not know which way to go. We were afraid we would be the last group to arrive. Finally, we managed to find our way with the help of a fellow guide.
Even though we have to bear apart with Pulau Ubin, we sure enjoyed ourselves there. The ride back to Singapore was sure making my stomach queasy once again. Once we arrived, I dashed straight away to the toilet to throw out. Right after the debrief by the teachers, we are on our way back home in the bus we came in. It was sure a tiring and enjoying day.
My reflections:
Well, first of all, I want to thank all the guides teachers for bringing us to Pulau Ubin since it was the first time there for most of us. It sure was an unusual activity to welcome the new secondary one pupils. I hope in the future, events like these will happen again in order to build and sustain stronger and closer bonds within the guides’ family. Even though the time we spent there wasn’t very long, we sure had our fills from the view and experience. I am sure most of us here can’t wait for the next exciting event. |
